Visuals Report: Comparing the Covers of Turfgrass Periodicals
Written for WRA 360: Visual Design & Rhetoric (spring 2006). Compares the front covers of three turfgrass magazines: Golf Course Management, Golfdom, and TurfNews. Pays special attention to important design details such as the use of color, pictures, whitespace, repitition, alignment, and proximity.
Sugar Substitutes: Packets of Poison?
Written with the help of two other lab members for BS 159H: Honors Cell and Molecular Biology Laboratory (spring 2005). Describes the creation of an experiment to examine the possible mutagenic properties of artificial sweeteners, specifically Sweet 'N Low, Splenda, and Equal. Documents the steps of the experiment and includes a discussion of the results, including tables and figures.
"May I Take Your Order, Please?"
Written for PRO 102: Freshman Seminar Abroad in Québec City (fall 2004). Reflects on the results of a sociolinguistics study conducted at McDonald's in Hartland, Michigan. The study observes the use of politeness phrases (please, thank you, you're welcome) among various age groups. Provides an analysis and compares the results of the study using a variety of tables.

Written for ENG 226: Introduction to Creative Writing (spring 2006). A set of 6 creatively-titled fictional letters written from a young woman to her ex-lover. Documents her months of healing through colorful imagery and metaphors. Demonstrates my ability to tell an effective story through atypical writing conventions.
Masochism: A Collection of Poems in "M"
Written for ENG 226: Introduction to Creative Writing (spring 2006). A set of seven poems featuring three interrelated characters: a female bartender, a male customer at the bar, and another female who works at the nude dance club across the street. Utilizes several meters and rhyme schemes including free verse and trochaic trimeter. Includes a list of revisions made to the poems after receiving feedback regarding the first draft. The poem entitled "Martini" was published in The Big Green (Vol. 5 Issue 7) and received an honorable mention in their 2nd annual poetry contest.
