Solutions
We found some simple solutions to somewhat pressing problems you may encounter with your off-campus property.
Crummy Water Pressure
Check out special low-pressure shower heads at Meijer or a hardware store; a decent one will only cost you around $10.
High Energy Bills
- Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting (120°F is considered optimal).
- Start using energy-saving settings on refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines/dryers.
- Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lightbulbs — while the initial cost of the bulbs is much greater, the money saved on your electric bill will be noticeable.
- Using a heated blanket on your bed at night will allow you to keep your heat turned down to the lowest comfortable setting.
- Seal your windows. There are many methods of doing this from using duct tape to buying a small kit at a hardware store.
- Avoid running the air conditioning if at all possible. Fans will cost you less money in the long run.
