On the morning of Tuesday, May 15, Kristen learned that the soprano section's section shorts order had fallen through. Follow Kristen on her mission to obtain 20 pairs of screenprinted athletic shorts - fast!

May 16 - packing for an entire summer

Packing for drum corps requires careful planning. Rehearsal and show clothes, sleeping gear, instrument maintenance items, and personal belongings must all be packed. The ideal suitcase is light and well-organized, though there are many "styles" of drum corps packing.

Move-In RehearsalsMove-in rehearsals took place May 18-June 13 in Oakshade, Ohio. The drum corps spent these three weeks living and practicing at G-West, formerly Chesterfield High School, the Glassmen's own rehearsal facility.

May 23 - basics block

Basics block takes place every day for 1-2 hours, depending on the rehearsal schedule. The block consists of exercises that help the hornline and drumline improve their marching technique. These may include posture, speed, step size, or timing exercises.

May 24 - Celebrity Wait Dinner

The first annual Celebrity Wait dinner provided supporters of the Glassmen with a fun way to donate to the cause in addition to a sneak preview of the 2007 corps. A few dozen members of the brass and percussion sections gathered in uniform at the gala and gave a standstill performance for the attendees.

May 25 - bus breakdown

The Glassmen own five charter buses (#732, 802, 851, 852, and 921) that experienced a variety of problems over the summer. This is only the first incident - and the corps hadn't even departed for tour yet.

May 26 - Indy 500 Festival Parade

The Glassmen traveled to Indianapolis to lead the Indy 500 Festival Parade. The corps performed for the grandstands before turning and leading participants 2 miles past 300,000 people on the parade route. Thousands more viewers tuned in to watch the parade broadcast on ESPN2.

June 9 - Springfield High School

The Glass Bowl was reserved this Saturday, so the corps rehearsed at a nearby high school stadium in preparation for the Family Day performance the next day.

June 10 - Family Day

This event, which takes place at G-West, usually marks the end of move-ins. Family Day is the first time the corps performs their entire field production in full uniform for friends, family, and fans. The annual event includes a standstill concert and a group picnic following the festivities.

June 11 - Rookie Initiation

The rookie initiation ceremony takes place after Family Day, when the corps has finally had their first performance together. This event signifies the rookie and veteran members of the group coming together to form one unit that will work and perform together for the rest of the summer.

June 13 - Laundry Day

The first official laundry day of the drum corps season. Laundry days are a treat because it means the corps members can hit up a Wal-Mart, drugstore, or fast food establishment.

G-West

The Glassmen spend winter camps and move-ins at G-West, formerly Chesterfield High School. This facility is owned by the Glassmen and has quite a history: the school used to be used as a haunted house and it is said to still be haunted by a ghost named Sarah.

TourGlassmen's 9-week tour began June 14. These weeks were spent sleeping on gym floors, rehearsing at facilities across the country, and performing for thousands of drum corps fans. This year the coast-to-coast tour began in Annapolis, Maryland, and ended in Pasadena, California.

Fred J. Miller and ENTERTRAINMENT clinic series. Throughout the summer tour, the Glassmen hold clinics for high school band members, band directors, and even judges. These clinics are meant to be educational and shed light on how a world class drum corps spends their rehearsal time.
